They say technology have made things easy. Well, true that things are just one click away. But, we have to accept the fact that the tradition way of living has its own remembering experience, which is fading away just because of technology.
Though, few of the technological adoptions, are good as it ease the efficiency of our daily life, but, others are just affecting the important and meaningful traditional practices through online working.
Well, in past few years “Book sales in developed economies such as Britain and America have stagnated; in India, by contrast, the market has grown 41 percent since 2011, with 18m copies sold in English and other local languages last year, according to data from Nielsen Book-scan.” as quoted in this article.
Well, the other which may keep the traditional practice still alive in India, is our Parents. They still don’t believe in growing internet market, which way better, vision than what we experienced in recent Filpkart’s FlopKart incident. Hope the memories of that failure is still fresh in your mind. Though, Filpkart also started with selling books and now, almost all the lifestyle product is available, because, only book can’t be the only product to rely on, in this Indian Market.
Well, getting back to the point, why you still or any other time should not prefer e-Commerce over traditional way of buying books from Bookstores. Other than Hard copies of books the new things which are getting to the trend: e-Books and Audible books.
Our Smartphones and computers can do anything these days, you can read or hear the books, with just two tabs on the phone buttons.
But, still there are people who find Joy of buying Paper books over electronics, plus people who prefer to get into a bookstore of a book. Yes, I have a friend, and she has taken me to the bookstore quite a several times. For, buying books and I remember the glow when she finds a book of her interest while just doodling around the store. I once said her, you can buy books online, you can read reviews with them. But, she just reply, I like to go into the bookstore, if I won’t like any book I won’t buy.
First, I Found it weird, as to how someone can be So, happy while buying a book which may be a fail Investment after they read. I had this thought, because I am not a reader, I never bought a book for myself at any age except the textbooks, which I never read.
But, after going with her, for 2-3 times, I found out the reason why she gets so happy with Book in ONE hand.
The reason she use to doodle around into the Bookstore, was to read the synopsis of the books. The reason why she like to just get into the store, was something I experienced and learned about the bookstores. The walls of Books, and we are just of the world’s stress seeing the Real and Fictional world which is asking us to live their world.
Well, this feel we won’t be able to experience with the growing e-Commerce generation. It seems easy and efficient, but it costs more than we think. It costs our time which tests our patience, till the book arrives. Yes, you may think that now the delivery is made in just one or two days, well, that costs 100 Bucks more than what is the original price, else you will get within 5-7 days, which shows it have cons more than pros.
Then, the e-Commerce ruins the excitement of buying a book, with a patience of researching during the time of purchase. The Feeling of taking book to the home and making it your darling. The excitement of completing the book which you have started at the Bookstore itself.
If you’re an avid reader, who likes to wander around bookstores, you can relate to what it means to buy a book, which you picked after rejecting some of the best sellers. The thrill and twist which leads you to throw the book. The freedom of taking the book to anywhere and using it as rough as you can. These morning tea or night coffee drops which fell while reading and drinking.
Well, there is nowhere you can stop the digital evolution and it is going to make us lazy for getting things. Still, those who like to cherish the moments with the best experience should start supporting the local bookstore.
