BEST collects 15 paise for its commuters as tax which goes for the betterment of malnutrition kids. As per the availability created after the govt notification to BEST endeavor, with impact from the year 1994, BEST has been aggregation 50 paise extra to its ticket fares as nutrition surcharge.
Known as the ‘nutrition surcharge’, it had been first levied in Mumbai throughout the 1971 India-Pakistan War to supply relief for Bangladesh war victims. Recurrent demands to quash it are turned down and therefore the surcharge continues until date.
